Is the Garmin Fenix 3 Worth Buying?

The Garmin Fenix 3 is an extremely well made device that inspires confidence from the moment that it is opened. Whether it is being used for swimming, cycling, navigating or running, the Fenix 3 can be set to track and record your performance against set goals. This information is stored and sent back for your perusal when the device next connects with a suitable device. Thankfully, much of the performance is intuitive and the interface is easy to navigate, meaning there is minimal time wasted fiddling between sessions.

However, to really get the most out of this watch, you should consider purchasing the heart rate monitor chest strap that goes with the Fenix 3. Although it is an additional purchase, the value added by using the two devices in conjunction with each other is phenomenal. When working together, the Garmin Fenix 3 will give accurate feedback on not only heart rate, but on many in depth running statistics including cadence and vertical oscillation. This is the kind of information that serious athletes pay considerable amounts to test.

Although the Garmin Fenix 3 can be used in training mode consistently, it really shouldn’t be considered as a constant activity tracker. For one, the battery will be drained in less than a day, and frankly it is a waste of the potential of this stunning device. Rather, the Garmin Fenix 3 should be used as a training and outdoor aid. Use it for long runs, swims, or even for geocaching in the hills.

This is a multi-purpose watch designed for those that take their outdoors seriously – not for those looking to make phone calls through their wrists!
